It has been suggested that an open online Asset Failure Database into which Councils could upload asset failure data could be a valuable resource for Councils.
This database is envisaged to be divided into asset types e.g. roads, water and wastewater mains.
As the volume of data accumulates it would provide assets engineers with better information about, for example, how assets deteriorate in different soil types, given that it would store data from across Australia and New Zealand ( and other regions ), as well as show any patterns relating to materials, year of construction and other characteristics.
Importantly, it would be freely available for searching.
