Asset Maintenance Cost Rules of Thumb
In order to estimate the future lifecycle cost of a new asset or facility it is necessary to estimate the total cost of maintaining the asset or facility over its entire life.
Estimating future maintenance needs from first principles isn't always (if ever) a simple task, so having even a rough idea (rule of thumb) of the relationship (ratio) between replacement cost and average annual maintenance cost for a range of asset types would be very helpful when it comes to estimating lifecycle costs.
