Building Envelope is one of a number of components that buildings can be broken up into for the purposes of including them in an asset register.
AMCORD defines a building envelope as a diagram drawn on a lot of a subdivision plan to the requirements of the Responsible Authority defining the limits for the siting and/or wall height of any dwellings and/or outbuildings, private open space, driveways and/or garages/carports.
The typical useful life of a building envelope will vary from building to building, depending on a number of factors, including the materials used in its construction, but may be in the range 40-90 years.
