Building Information Modelling

Building information modelling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of built environment.

In Australia, Digital Engineering has been adopted as terminology to avoid confusion with its earlier roots into "Building or Facilities assets" and perception that it was only applicable to that industry. It started in USA, UK and Singapore and now spreaded globally. UK PAS 1192 series (free download) has comprehensive background and related advancements into future ISO 19560 parts.

ISO 19560 standard series applies to the whole life cycle of a built asset, including strategic planning, initial design and construction, day-to-day operation, maintenance, refurbishment, repair and end-of-life.
