Business Needs Analysis

A Business Needs Analysis is a study that attempts to identify business needs and determine solutions to business problems.

A business needs analysis aims to identify the changes to an organization that are required for it to achieve strategic goals.

Changes could include:

  • modifying processes
  • training or hiring of staff to give the organisation the capacity to achieve its strategic goals
  • software or equipment purchases

Business Needs Analysis Checklist

The checklist below is very draft, any improvement suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Articulate the organisation's strategic goals
  2. Document your current processes
  3. Use some form of gap analysis to identify how well your organisation delivers on its goals.
  4. Compile a list of business needs based on the results of the gap analysis should fall out.
  5. Compile a list of improvement opportunities.
  6. Workshop with stakeholders eg current staff from senior staff through to grass roots level staff and possibly board/Councillors to identify and prioritise improvements.
