Community Infrastructure is the buildings and spaces that provide a variety of opportunities, activities and services that respond to individual and community social needs.
Examples of community infrastructure include:
- Libraries
- Children’s Centres, Preschools (Kindergarten) and Occasional Care Centres
- Playgroup and Family Services Facilities
- Youth and Middle Years Services Facilities
- Maternal & Child Health Centres
- Seniors Centres/Hubs and Aged Care facilities
- Community venues & Halls
- Neighbourhood Houses
- Arts Centres & Cultural venues
- Leisure Centres & Aquatic Centres
- Sporting Facilities & Recreation facilities
Community infrastructure can be provided by governments, not for profit organisations and the private sector.
Victorian Local Government Act 1989
Section 3(E)(1)(c) of the Victorian Local Government Act 1989 notes that "providing and maintaining community infrastructure in the municipal district" is a Council function.
