Development Assessments and Approvals

Local Councils as the local planning authority control sub-divisional and other developments within their municipal area. Councils assess every development proposal submitted to them and either approve the development subject to certain conditions or refuse the proposal, based on its suitability under the local Planning Scheme.

A development assessment is typically undertaken upon receipt of a Planning Permit Application.

The assessment will consider a number of factors, and will be based on information provided in the planning permit application and accompanying specifications and engineering plans.

Victoria

In Victoria the development assessment and approval process for subdivision developments is governed by the Victorian Subdivision Act 1988.
