A Digital Elevation Model, (DEM), is a digital representation of the topography of the Earth's land surface.

A DEM can provide visual information about:

  • Drainage network and catchment boundaries
  • Surface slope, length and position
  • Hydrological indices
  • Water table indices
  • Species distribution
  • Soil salinity
  • Climate variables
