Esk Water Authority (trading as Esk Water) was established on 25 June 1997 as a Joint Authority under
Section 38 of the Tasmanian Local Government Act 1993, and commenced operation on 1 July 1997.

Esk Water is a bulk water business servicing the Launceston/Tamar Valley region in northern Tasmania, and is jointly owned by Launceston City Council, George Town Council, Meander Valley Council and West Tamar Council.
