Essential Public Asset
An Essential Public Asset is an asset on which health, education, transport, justice or welfare services depend.
The Australian Commonwealth provides financial support through the NDRRA to restore or replace particular essential public assets in the event of an eligible disaster.
The following list provides examples of assets that the Commonwealth would generally consider to be essential public assets:
- Public schools
- Public hospitals
- Public housing
- Roads
- Road infrastructure, for example road signs, guard rails and traffic lights
- Bridges
- Tunnels
- Footpaths
- Culverts
- Levees
- State government offices
- Local government offices
- Stormwater infrastructure
- Prisons/correctional facilities
- Police stations
