Geotextiles

Geotextiles are permeable fabrics used in drainage, paving, soil stabilisation, sedimentation and erosion control.

They have three main functions:

  • stabilisation
  • separation
  • filtration

Woven Geotextiles are used in applications where high strength is a priority but filtration is not critical, and where planar water flow is not an issue for consideration.

Non Woven Geotextiles are suitable where planar water flow, soil stabilisation and separation need to be considered.

Geotextiles are frequently used in pavement construction to reduce subsoil migrating into the aggregate layer and thus improving pavement performance, while retaining the aggregate layer's structural integrity and drainage capacity.
