HEC-RAS

HEC-RAS is a hydraulic modelling software developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Research
Centre. It has been designed to carry out one dimensional steady and unsteady state flow calculations. It is also capable of subcritical and supercritical flow analyses.

HEC-RAS is suitable for modelling head losses at hydraulic structures.

The development of a HEC-RAS model, may require one or more of the following data:

  • Cross sections of relevant creek reaches
  • Locations and dimensions of hydraulic structures
  • Flow rates
  • Locations where flow rate changes
  • Identification of upstream and downstream boundary conditions. Boundary conditions may include water surface elevation, critical depth, uniform flow depth.
  • Channel roughness
