Inflow and Infiltration

Inflow and Infiltration is water entering the sewer system through cracked pipes or leaky manholes.

Inflow is surface water runoff due to rain events entering the system usually through leaky manhole covers as well as illegal plumbing connections directing stormwater into the sewer.

Infiltration is due to rain water seeping into the ground and entering the system through cracked pipes.
