Level 2 Bridge Inspection
A Level 2 Bridge Inspection is a structure condition inspection.
A level bridge inspection is designed to:
- Assess and rate the condition of a structure and adjacent roadway (As a basis for identifying current maintenance needs, assessing the effectiveness of past maintenance treatments, modeling and forecasting future changes in condition and estimating future budget requirements);
- Ascertain any significant damage or defects that might require urgent repair or replacement.
The VicRoads Road Structures Inspection Manual recommends that a Level 2 inspection be carried out within 12 months of a bridge being commission and that thereafter all bridges should be inspected on a 2 to 5 year cycle, depending on the condition of components, estimated rates of deterioration, the environment, traffic volumes and taking into consideration any completed maintenance, strengthening or replacement of components in poor condition.
