Modular Prefabricated Pavement

A modular prefabricated pavement is a section of road constructed from interconnecting modules fabricated off-site.

The concept comes from Europe, specifically a FEHRL report into New Road Construction Concepts.

It is envisaged that this methodology will allow the integration of new materials and smart components into the pavement, and give greater control over characterists such as acoustics and slip resistance.

It should also make it easier to automate the construction process with robotics and/or 3D printing, and allow the quick replacement of damaged segments.
