Neighbourhood Best Practice

Neighbourhood Best Practice is the idea of doing things at least as well as your neighbours. In the local government context this means performing a Council activity or function at least as well as adjacent Councils are doing it.

Neighbourhood Best Practice, is about;

  • Finding out how adjacent Councils do things,
  • Comparing your process to their process,
  • Changing your process if another Council is doing things better.

It's not rocket science, but it is a potentially powerful way of improving the way you do things, and because each Council has a distinct set of neighbours good ideas could mutate and evolve has they perculate through the local government community.
