Pavement Condition

The condition of a road pavement will impact on the level of service it provides and its probable remaining useful life.

Determining the condition of a road pavement is an important issue for local government.

Pavement condition can be determined manually with a visual inspection, or automatically using a specially fitted out survey vehicle.

Asset Management Systems will typically require road segments to be assigned pavement condition scores before they will be able to generate renewal programs.

The simplest pavement condition scoring system, might look something like that shown below

Score Description
0 Brand New
1 Excellent Condition
2 Good Condition
3 Fair Condition
4 Poor Condition
5 Failed

More advanced systems may generate Pavement Condition Indexes from detailed defect severity and extent information.
