Pedestrian Refuge

A Pedestrian Refuge is a traffic island located in the centre of a road carriageway that is designed to allow pedestrians to cross the road in stages. On busy streets, it is typically much easier to find a gap in traffic travelling one direction than it is to find a gap in both directions of traffic simultaneously.
