Planning Authority

A planning authority is the body responsible for the administration of a planning scheme. Planning authorities are typically local Councils.

Victorian Planning and Environment Act 1987

Section 8A of the Victorian Planning and Environment Act 1987 states that municipal councils are planning authorities:

  • for any planning scheme in force in its municipal district; and
  • for any other planning scheme for which it is authorised under this section to prepare an amendment.
