Planning Authority

A planning authority is the body responsible for the administration of a planning scheme. Planning authorities are typically local Councils.

Section 8A of the Victorian Planning and Environment Act 1987 states that municipal councils are planning authorities:

for any planning scheme in force in its municipal district; and
for any other planning scheme for which it is authorised under this section to prepare an amendment.
