Preliminary Item

A Preliminary Item is any item included in the "Preliminaries" section of a project cost estimate or plan.

The ‘CIOB Code of Estimating Practice’ defines Preliminaries as “the cost of administering a project and providing general plant, site staff, facilities, and site based services and other items not included in the rates”.

Section 2 of the Australian Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works details what can be included as a preliminary item.
