Private Road

A private road is a road that is not subject to use by the public as of right.

Alternate Definitions

A road restricted in use to a limited class of people (ie not to the public in general) or for a limited period of time - Registrar Generals Directions.

Queensland

In Queensland the Local Government Act mentions private roads several times.

Section 60(1)c states that local government has control of all roads in its local government area, including the ability to approve the naming and numbering of private roads.

Section 74(1)a states that a local government must prepare and keep up-to-date a map of every road, including private roads, in its local
government area.
