Regional Library

A Regional Library is a library with multiple branches in multiple locations.

Regional libraries may operate within a single or multiple local government areas. The Yarra Plenty Regional Library for example, services the municipalities of Whittlesea, Banyule and Nillumbik.

Victorian Local Government Act

Sections 196 & 197 of the Victorian Local Government Act 1989 deal with regional libraries:

Section 196(4) states that:
(4) A regional library—
(a) is a body corporate with perpetual
succession; and
(b) must have a common seal; and
(c) may sue or be sued in its corporate name;
and
(d) is capable of acquiring, holding, dealing with
or disposing of property for the purpose of
performing any function or power specified
in the agreement; and
(e) is capable of doing and suffering all acts and
things which bodies corporate may by law do
and suffer and which are necessary or
expedient for performing any function or
power specified in the agreement.
