Rural Road

A Rural Road is a road located outside of the boundaries of an urban area.

Queensland Grants Commission

The Queensland Grants Commission defines a rural road as;

  • All roads of any surface; and
  • not classified as urban sealed roads; and
  • for which council has the full financial responsibility for their maintenance and are open to, and used by,
  • wheeled traffic at 30 June;
  • including roads declared under the Transport Infrastructure (Roads) Act.

But, excluding;

  • State controlled roads
  • Surveyed road reserves not normally carrying traffic
  • Roads on private property
  • Bridges
