Sediment Basin

A sediment basin is a pond with open water that captures coarse sediment and litter carried by stormwater. They intercept stormwater before it reaches the waterway, and slow it down to allow the coarse sediment to fall to the bottom.

In the past sediment basins were typically temporary structures associated with construction works, but increasingly they are being installed as permanent water sensitive urban design elements.
