Septic System

A a septic system is a small-scale sewage treatment system common in rural areas not covered by a sewerage scheme.

Councils are typically responsible for ensuring septic systems are correctly installed. Where septic systems are required, building permits will typically require that a percolation test is carried out to ensure that the subsoil drains attached to the septic tank are sufficiently long.
