Sodium Carbonate

Sodium carbonate (also known as washing soda, soda ash and soda crystals), Na2CO3, is a sodium salt of carbonic acid.

Sodium carbonate has several local government related uses including:

  • as an additive in municipal pools used to neutralize the corrosive effects of chlorine and raise pH;
  • for pH correction at small water treatment plants.
