Speed Cushion

A speed cushion is a traffic control device used to slow traffic, particularly in residential areas. They differ from speed humps in that they are designed to let larger vehicles such as ambulances pass over them at normal speeds by leaving gaps between individual raised areas. Normal sized vehicles typically must slow as the distance betwen gaps is larger than the distance between their wheels.
