A water meter that also measures flow rate is known as a flowmeter. In most cases meters on a water property service are not flowmeters. Large commercial & industrial sites may be exceptions.

The useful life of a water meter is typically about 10 years. The accuracy of meters can deteriorate over time, and this is often the main consideration in estimating a useful life for the meter.
