UTS Centre for Local Government

The UTS Centre for Local Government is an autonomous unit within the University of Technology, Sydney. It was established in 1991 and is now the largest centre of its kind in Australia.

The Centre's activities are diverse and include:

  • professional development programs for local government personnel and associated professionals
  • a Graduate Diploma in Local Government Management
  • research into various aspects of local government and governance
  • specialist consultancy services for councils and State and Federal agencies
  • international programs and projects.
  • co-auspicing and publication of Commonwealth Journal of Local Governance
  • organising international research conferences, workshops and colloquia.

The Centre promotes a cooperative approach to local government education, research and development, and maintains close ties with a large number of local government associations, professional institutes and academic bodies in Australia, the Asia-Pacific and globally.
