Value

The term value has several meanings all of which are used in local government to some degree.

  1. The quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable.  
  2. The degree of importance given to something.
  3. The amount (of money or goods or services) that is considered to be a fair equivalent for something else.

Asset Values

Councils are required to know the value of their assets and to account for them appropriately.

Organisational Values

Many Councils have defined a set of organisational or staff values. Whittlesea City Council for example has the following staff values:

  • Sustainability
  • Excellence
  • Open Communication
  • Respect
  • Valuing Diversity
  • Wellbeing
