Work Method Statement

A Work Method Statement is a document that states how a potentially dangerous or high risk activity is to be carried out safely.

A Work Method Statement is required for the following types of activities:

  • entering trenches more than 1.5 m deep
  • working with explosives
  • working in confined spaces
  • working with a hazardous substances
  • working at heights were a person could fall at least 3 m for housing construction work and at least 2 m for any other type of construction work
  • working on a roof with pitch greater than 26o
  • working in demolition or asbestos removal
  • or any activity in which the principal contractor concludes that it could result in death or bodily harm
