Workplace Challenge Group Consultation
A Workplace Challenge Group Consultation is a structured five step process that aims to use the collective wisdom of a group of people to generate different ways of seeing and solving a challenge identified by an individual.
The Process
- The individual with the challenge (the presenter) presents the facts of the challenge to the group including; a description of the challenge, the people involved in the challenge, and what has already been done to try and solve the challenge. (5 minutes)
- The group asks the presenter questions to gain a better understanding of the issues surrounding the challenge. (10 minutes)
- The presenter turns away from the group and listens while the group discusses the situation and the presenters approach to the challenge. The group should try to develop multiple hypotheses and interpretations. The presenter should not speak at all during this step. (10 minutes)
- The group brainstorms a list of actions that the presenter could consider to deal with the challenge. The presenter (remaining silent and facing away) should write down the group's suggestions. (5 minutes)
- The presenter turns back to face the group and reflects on and discusses the group's conversation and their suggestions. (5 minutes)
